Mystery over £60,000 worth of banknotes found floating down a river

The unnamed individual discovered the £60,000 haul in the South Drove Drain in Spalding on October but no one has yet come forward to claim it as theirs.

Police said many of the banknotes had sustained water damage but that most were in good condition.  A forensic examination of the money is underway and police in Lincolnshire are liaising with the Bank of England to help ascertain where the money came from.‘It isn’t every day that an amount of money like this is found and somebody must have information that will help the police trace the lawful owner,’ said Detective Constable Steve Hull.
